At Maxwell & Moore Psychology, couples therapy is one of our passions. Our couples therapists receive specialised training in the evidence-based models for relationship counselling to support you and your partner. We support all types of relationships.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) is a structured, evidenced-based approach designed to improve attachment and bonding in adult relationships. EFT was developed in the 1980s by psychologists Sue Johnson and Les Greenberg. EFT is based on attachment science, which views love as an attachment bond.
EFT looks at how individuals process their experiences, particularly their emotional responses, along with how partners interact together in patterns. The therapist aims to guide the distressed couple away from rigid, harmful, and destructive ways of reacting and toward sensitive, flexible ones that support intimate and secure bonds (Greenberg, 2015; Johnson, 2020). Our psychologists intergrate EFCT with a flexible approach to meet the unique relationships needs.
